I just got a pop-up telling me that AVG’s now offering free upgrades for 7.5 customers. They finally released AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0, the latest version of the company’s popular and widely-used free security software, which now incorporates protection against spyware through a new combined anti-virus and anti-spyware engine.
Here’s the pop-up, AVG offered free upgrades to 8.0: (updates for AVG Free 7.5 will not be available after May 31st 2008)

AVG 8.0 antivirus freeware is always packed with internet security features like real-time protection, daily updates, and complete system scans at regularly scheduled intervals. The new interface is much easier to navigate than in previous version, with tabbed navigation on the left assisting users in drilling down to the tools they need.

Nevertheless, There are Limited Features for Free Edition:
- AVG Free 8 doesn’t have all of the features you get in the commercial version of the application. There’s no rootkit protection, no active-surf-shield protection.
- Email scanning will work during your first 30 days using AVG Free but get disabled unless you upgrade.
- AVG Free only includes the Safe Search protection which provides you with advice on search results. It does not protect against infected pages. Only AVG paid versions contain the Safe Surf technology.
- AVG Free does not contain the new Safe Downloads & Instant Messaging protection (Web Shield technology) so it does not screen your downloads and communication for viruses and spyware.
- Full features are available in paid version.

NOTE : I never suggest your computer/pc/laptop should sport 2 antivirus apps if you feel comfort with just a great one! and you feel it’s enough for you. Btw, if you’ve decided to install both antivirus freewares (like me), one of them may crash, so turn off/disable it when another is under installation. You should exclude “another-antivirus’s folders/files” so that both of them don’t scan its files each other. And of course take my advice at your own risk

Great! They finally released the Free Edition.. AVG 8.0.1. Thanks for the info, you’re right, With its free features more than avg8, avast 4.8 would be a great alternative (i like antivirus freewares better than ‘cracking’ norton / other paid versions which isn’t legal).

Saya kurang tau persisnya coba aja search di google, Untuk virus yang tidak tersembuhkan, kalau filenya tidak terlalu penting dan tidak bisa di HEAL/RECOVER di delete manual saja (kan sudah tau lokasinya?)
Kalau thd virus asing dicoba saja antivirus dr luar semacam avg, avast, antivir, norton dlsb, mengingat setiap hari ratusan virus tumbuh bak jamur di musim hujan, dicoba saja bro.
Oya, nambahin kalau suatu ketika 1 antivirus tidak mempan thd 1 virus memang wajar, karena selalu kejar-kejaran racun dan obatnya. dan kadang gantian juga antar produk dalam mengatasinya. kadang satunya ndetek, satunya nggak, ntar laen kali gantian.
