addition 2:

- behavior-based protection
- HIPS (host intrusion prevention system)

short article explaining the difference:

"HIPS vs. behavior-based protection"

"host intrusion prevention system (HIPS) allows far more granular control, it is best suited for experienced users" "behavior blockers are concerned with the entire program rather than individual actions, they can be far simpler for users to understand (and thus use appropriately). For this reason, behavior blockers are ideal for the less experienced user" - "generally speaking, HIPS and behavior blockers can be run together (and both in conjunction with traditional signature based antivirus software and firewalls)"
http://antivirus.about.com/od/antivirussoftwarereviews/a/hips_behavior.htm

# So you can either turn off (or just not install) the HIPS security offered by Comodo Firewall Pro named "Defense+", or run Defense+ together with the much less annoying behavior-based protection offered by ThreatFire for "excellent security and a high degree of user control over the system".

addition:

The "behavior analysis" of ThreatFire prevents new and previously unknown threats that might otherwise bypass signature-based scanners like Avira AntiVir Personal.

I finally found the perfect combination of a freeware security suite for Windows:

- Avira AntiVir Personal (free)
the best freeware Anti-Virus scan engine, several tests of different security labs show every year that Avira AntiVir is the best of all. Like other virus scanners Avira uses the "signature-based" approach. And Avira is fast and uses less system resources compared to other anti-virus competitors.

- PC Tools ThreatFire (free)
ThreatFire does the stuff that Avira AntiVir in its free version does not offer. It is working as a complement to the Avira AntiVir and offers a so called "behavior-based" protection against "zero day attacks" from malware such as viruses, worms, trojans, or rootkits. ThreatFire is a great supplement to the other security software. And the behavior-based approach results in less popups and alerts.

- Comodo Firewall Pro (free)
The firewall is much better than the free version of ZoneAlarm (the "leak-test" performance of ZoneAlarm Free is crappy 11% compared to Comodo Firewall Pro reaching perfect 95%). Plus Comodo offers a HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention System) named Defense+. Comodo recognizes thousands of known programs as safe resulting in less popups and firewall alerts. And the Comodo firwall is fast and uses less system resources compared to other firewall competitors.

# So if you install this pack you have your system protected through several supplementing security layers, for free :)
