Google Chrome - Simpler and Faster Open Source Browser

Google Chrome - Simpler and Faster Open Source Browser 1Google just released its own browser in beta, called Google Chrome, offering the promise of increased speed, security and usability (faster, safer, and easier). This new web browser uses V8 JavaScript engine that features hidden class transitions, dynamic code generation, and precise garbage collection. According to wikipedia, Tests by Google show that V8 is about twice as fast as Firefox 3 and the Safari 4 beta. Chrome is also based on WebKit rendering engine on advice from the Android team.

According to The Official Google Blog,

Under the hood, we were able to build the foundation of a browser that runs today’s complex web applications much better. By keeping each tab in an isolated “sandbox”, we were able to prevent one tab from crashing another and provide improved protection from rogue sites. We improved speed and responsiveness across the board. We also built a more powerful JavaScript engine, V8, to power the next generation of web applications that aren’t even possible in today’s browsers.

This is just the beginning — Google Chrome is far from done. We’re releasing this beta for Windows to start the broader discussion and hear from you as quickly as possible. We’re hard at work building versions for Mac and Linux too, and will continue to make it even faster and more robust.

Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier. The name is derived from the graphical user interface frame, or “chrome”, of web browsers.

Google Chrome Features
+ One box for everything. Web search. Web history. Address bar. Suggestions as you type. One unified box serves all your browsing needs.
+ New Tab page. Every time you open a new tab, you’ll see a visual sampling of your most visited sites, most used search engines, and recently bookmarked pages and closed tabs.
+ Application shortcuts. Use web apps without opening your browser. Application shortcuts can directly load your favorite online apps.
+ Dynamic tabs. You can drag tabs out of the browser to create new windows, gather multiple tabs into one window or arrange your tabs however you wish — quickly and easily.
+ Crash control. Every tab you’re using is run independently in the browser, so if one app crashes it won’t take anything else down.
+ Incognito mode. This mode is for private browsing. In case you don’t want pages you visit to show up in your web history.
+ Safe browsing. Google Chrome warns you if you’re about to visit a suspected phishing, malware or otherwise unsafe website.
+ Instant bookmarks. You can just click the star icon at the left edge of the address bar and you’re done.
+ Importing settings. When you switch to Google Chrome, you can pick up where you left off with all the bookmarks and passwords from your existing browser.
+ Simpler downloads. No intrusive download manager; you see your download’s status at the bottom of your current window.

All Features above are described well with YouTube videos. You can watch them from here.

> A Comic explaining Google Chrome
A comic by Scott McCloud was to be sent to journalists and bloggers explaining the features of and motivations for the new browser. You can read it from here.
