I know that Not only do We want to Tweak Internet Speed (when it’s Online) but also want to tweak computer speed (when it’s Offline).

In most cases, people want to speed Windows XP, or Vista, or 2000, 98, 95 and other Windows OS versions. But, do they know, What’s the primary cause of slow/unstable PC performance? It’s disk fragmentation.

What is Defragmentation?
Defragmentation is a process that reduces the amount of fragmentation in file systems. It does this by physically reorganizing the contents of the disk to store the pieces of each file close together and contiguously. It also attempts to create larger regions of free space using compaction to impede the return of fragmentation. Some defragmenters also try to keep smaller files within a single directory together, as they are often accessed in sequence. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defragmentation)

Hey, And then you maybe already know Default Windows Disk Defragmenter !

This is the default built-in disk defragmenter included in your Microsoft Windows. Windows Disk Defragmenter is a computer program included in Microsoft Windows designed to increase access speed (and sometimes increase the amount of usable space) by rearranging files stored on a disk to occupy contiguous storage locations, or defragmenting. The purpose is to optimize the time it takes to read and write files to/from the disk by minimizing head travel time and maximizing the transfer rate.

>>Nevertheless, There are some problems with Default Windows Disk Defragmenter :
When you are defragging your hard disk drive, you have to stop using the computer or else the process will start all over again. Sometimes you need to defrag in safe mode to avoid the hassle of startup programs messing up with defragmentation process.

Do you know that.. All of those problems OCCUR because There are some Limitations on your Default/Standard Windows Disk Defragmenter?

The version of Disk Defragmenter Microsoft Management Console (MMC) that is included with Windows XP has the following limitations:

• It can defragment only local volumes.
• It can defragment only one volume at a time.
• It cannot defragment one volume while it is scanning another.
• It cannot be scheduled. If you need to schedule disk defragmentation, use the Defrag.exe command line tool.
• It can run only one MMC snap-in at a time.

There are NO “Selectable multiple disks to Queue”, NO Auto Defrag, NO SCHEDULE, NO “Turn OFF after Defragment” . . .

I find that all those limitations would make my work more complicated. I need a simple FREE program that could help me. I’m lucky that i found a cool freeware. I now use a BETTER and FREE disk defragmenter, it’s called IObit Smart Defrag.
