Following the last post, Wordpress 2.5 is Better?, Today, The folks behind the one of the best Content Management Systems, Wordpress.org, released a new upgrade/update. Yes, Wordpress version 2.5.1 is now available. It includes a number of bug fixes, performance enhancements, and one very important security fix for wp 2.5.

> Urgent Security Fix?
Wordpress recommends everyone update immediately, particularly if your blog has open registration. The official release said “the vulnerability is not public but it will be shortly.”

In case you are interested only in the security fixes, you can download these corrected copies of wp-includes/pluggable.php, wp-admin/includes/media.php, and wp-admin/media.php. Replace your existing copies of these files with these new copies.

> Over 70 other Bug Fixes:
In addition to the security fix, 2.5.1 contains many bug fixes. If you download the entire 2.5.1 release, you will be getting over 70 other fixes. 2.5.1 focuses on fixing the most annoying bugs and improving performance. Here are some highlights:

+ Performance improvements for the Dashboard, Write Post, and Edit Comments pages.
+ Better performance for those who have many categories
+ Media Uploader fixes
+ An upgrade to TinyMCE 3.0.7
+ Widget Administration fixes
+ Various usability improvements
+ Layout fixes for IE

>> It’s easy to UPGRADE , Here’s Step by Step:
+ Step 0: Before You Get Started > BACKUP, Yes, BACKUP and BACKUP! You can use wordpress backup plugins, FTP, but i prefer a full backup from my CPANEL which includes SQL database and all files.

+ Step 1: Replace WordPress files > After downloading the new files, you’ll just replace or delete your old wp-includes and wp-admin directories then copy the new dirs /files.

*** WARNING : The wp-content folder requires special handling, as do the plugins and themes folders. You must copy over the contents of these folders, not the entire folder. Copying the entire folder overwrites all your customizations and added content.

Also take care to preserve the wp-config.php file in the root directory, as it contains your database sign-in information. Do note though that usually this will not be a problem since in a new installation the config file will be named wp-config-sample.php.

+ Step 2: Upgrade your installation
if your wordpress ‘example.com’ just type this in your browser :

http://example.com/wordpress/wp-admin/upgrade.php

then follow the instruction.. and DONE !

NOTE: If you decide to have a fresh installation of wordpress 2.5.1, Remember the “SECRET_KEY” in wp-config.php
