How to Tweak Internet Speed by Tuning Up Default Network Bandwith LimitWindows XP

Your internet speed is slow, want to tweak internet speed BUT your operating system is Windows XP Professional. By default, the Packet Scheduler of Windows XP Pro limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default. That packet is QoS ( Quality of service) for Windows XP. This packet may not be often used, so Why don't we change the setting to tweak internet speed.

Determines the percentage of connection bandwidth that the system can reserve. This value limits the combined bandwidth reservations of all programs running on the system. If you enable the setting, you can use the "Bandwidth limit" box to adjust the amount of bandwidth the system can reserve. If you disable this setting or do not configure it, the system uses the default value of 20 percent of the connection.

But If a bandwidth limit is set for a particular network adapter in the registry, this setting is ignored when configuring that network adapter.

Here step by step to TUNE UP your bandwith limit in Windows XP > Group policy :

1. Go to "RUN" and type : gpedit.msc

2. Administrative Templates > Network > QoS Packet Scheduler

3. Double Click > "Limit Reservable Bandwith"

4. Limit Reservable Bandwith > Enabled , Bandwith limit 20% change to > 0%

5. click OK, and Restart your connection.

hi, cool web site and good articles.
The The first step is to learn how to find out what your Internet speed is.The Internet speed is determined by 2 components: the download rate and the upload rate of data which are usually measured in Kilobits per second.
Then after you know the upload and download rate, you can use tools or tweaks to improve your internet speed, or take the decision to change your ISP.

this will only have an effect if you are using QoS, which most aren't, and then it will render the QoS less effective (because allowing your computer to prioritize some traffic over others is the whole point of QoS).

Hi, cool web sites. For speed up your pc you can use a free tool from http: //myinternetspeed.org/free-utilities/free-utility-program/. It allows you to clean system junk files, invalid registry entries and Internet traces. You can also manage and delete browser add-ons, analyze disk space usage and find duplicate files, view and manage installed shell extensions, encrypt your files from unauthorized access and use, split large files into smaller manageable files and then rejoin them.

Hi Guys , sometimes internet is not slow from our side , it is also from the ISP , the provider ., and also see that all the cables are proper and not twisted ., but now days , the usb/modem internet is available ., they do provide good speed at affordable rates ., and there no problem of cables wires ., but before its good to take advice for some person who has got the same connection, etc ., rather than spending/wasting money for slow connection ., Anyways, Have a Nice Day ! :D
